You will find fishing is fun right from the pier.  Cedar Lake is home to Crappie, Bluegill, Catfish, Carp, White Striped Bass and even Northern Pike!   I am not much of a fisherman myself, but I do catch plenty of fish on this lake! So if you are new to fishing, be sure to watch our video and you will be able to tie a Polamar fishing knot like a pro.  I am also letting you in on a few secrets to catching a fish almost every time here at Log Home on the Lake, in Cedar Lake, Indiana.

Here are my secrets….

I have found that the best bait for fishing off the pier at Log Home on the Lake,  is leaf worms or nightcrawlers.

I like to use a line with just one single hook and a few sinkers.  (I don’t like to use a Bobber. There is often a breeze coming in toward shore, creating small waves that make watching a Bobber difficult).  After loading up the hook with bait, and putting it in the water, I let the hook and sinker sink to the bottom of the lake and then I will reel it up so that the hook is about 6 inches from the bottom. Fishing this way will allow you to feel when the fish are biting.

Cedar Lake has been stocked with a hybrid White Striped Bass. It doesn’t take long before the small bass are nibbling at the line. If you are fishing with kids, this is fun because they usually catch something.  More skilled anglers are able to catch the bigger bass as well.

Catching catfish on Cedar Lake is easy when fishing off the bottom at the pier or fishing the Rory area of our shore.

Not everyone likes Carp, but if you’re looking to have fun reeling in the Big Fish, try this…switch your bait to whole corn. (I buy this by the can).   The Carp are big, and they go crazy for the corn. The Big Carp are a lot of fun to catch!

All of these pictures were taken here at Cedar Lake. The picture of the Northern Pike was taken by one of our guests, who caught this directly across the lake where an inlet meets the lake in a large area of lily pads.

We try to keep a few fishing poles and a small tackle box at the home, but we recommend bringing a fishing pole of your own to assure that it works well.   You will also find that the local True Value Hardware store or Sportsman’s Den carry fishing licenses, poles, and bait for you to purchase.
